In most cases, blood blisters or cherry angiomas appear when you reach middle age. Are you over 60? There's a good chance you have blood blisters. Harmless and entirely benign, but cosmetically they can be experienced as bothersome. Coagulation therapy quickly gets rid of blood blisters. This safe treatment is fast, highly effective and an accessible alternative to a surgical procedure.
How do blood blisters develop?
Blood blisters or cherry angiomas are often seen on the abdomen, neck, arms and legs. The cause is not fully understood, but it appears that sun exposure plays a major role in the development of blood blisters. Cherry angiomas can also develop more quickly during pregnancy, under the influence of hormones.
How coagulation therapy works for blood blisters
In coagulation for blood blisters, heat is introduced into the skin with an ultra-fine needle. The needle heats the blisters very locally. This causes the proteins in the skin to coagulate and scabs form at the sites of the cherry angiomas. On average, these scabs fall off the skin after a week, after which smooth, new skin appears. Coagulation treatment of blood blisters is safe, fast and highly effective. The treatment is also virtually painless.
Results of coagulation for blood blisters
After coagulation treatment, the blisters that have been treated stay away. That said, there is a chance of new cherry angiomas if you are prone to them. Of course, you can then have these new spots treated again.
Before the coagulation
Before undergoing coagulation therapy, it's wise to take the following into account.
- Do not wax the area to be treated in the week before the treatment.
- Do not undergo laser therapy or IPL in the week before the treatment.
- Do not undergo any intensive treatments in the week before the treatment. Think of microdermabrasion, powerful peels and microneedling.
Aftercare coagulation therapy for blood blisters
Immediately after the treatment, the skin is warm and sensitive. This subsides after a day. Within a few days, scabs form in the treated area. Do not scratch the scabs and keep them as dry as possible. This benefits the healing process.
- Avoid extreme heat (sauna, hot showers).
- Don't use a sunbed and avoid the sun as much as possible. During the day, apply a sun product with at least SPF 30.
- Be moderate with alcohol and smoking.
- Don't wear make-up until the scabs have fallen off the skin.
