The difference between powder brows and microblading
Our PMU expert Samaneh works with various techniques at CHRIS. You can visit her for powder brows (also called ombre brows), hairstrokes or microblading, and for a combination of the two. There are many differences between powder brows, hairstrokes and microblading. The technique differs, the brows look slightly different, and the longevity of powder brows and microblading also differs. PMU Powder brows
Powder brows is a semi-permanent make-up technique that is relatively new. Powder brows are also known as ombre brows and are characterised by their powdery finish. With powder brows, pigment is ‘shaded in’ just below the skin, which gives a powdery effect. The pigments are applied just below the skin with a needle. This sounds painful, but in practice it is really not that bad.
PMU Microblading
Microblading is a form of PMU eyebrows in which small incisions are made in the skin. These incisions are filled with pigment, giving you the effect of small hair strokes. Microblading can create the effect of fuller eyebrows, because more hairs can be created. Because the hairs are drawn one by one, the effect is very natural. The colour of the microblading brows is matched to your skin and hair colour.
PMU Hairstrokes
Slightly different from microblading is PMU hairstrokes. Unlike microblading, hairstroke eyebrows are applied with a machine. With the hairstrokes technique, the eyebrow hairs are drawn intermixed and also crossing one another, which gives a fuller result than microblading, where the hairs specifically must not cross. PMU hairstrokes is a good choice when you naturally have thin eyebrows and want to create more volume.
PMU Realistic 3D Hairstrokes
If you want natural eyebrow hairs that are almost indistinguishable from real hairs, choose the very latest technique, Realistic 3D hairstrokes. Bald or thinned eyebrows are completely filled in a natural way and regain their volume.
PMU Combination technique
Do you like both effects and can't choose between microblading, hairstrokes and powder brows? At CHRIS you can opt for a combination of different techniques. With the combination technique we use microblading or hairstrokes to add extra hairs between your own brows. The difference between hairstrokes and microblading is the technique: with hairstrokes the hairs are applied with a machine, with microblading by hand. After the microblading or hairstrokes, the whole is ‘coloured in’ with pigment and the powder brows technique. This ensures soft, defined brows just as you've always wanted. Our PMU specialist can tell you all about PMU hairstrokes, microblading, powder brows and combining them.
PMU eyebrows touch-up
Of course you can come to CHRIS to have your powder brows or PMU eyebrows touched up. We refresh the colour and shape, so that you can once again enjoy your permanent eyebrows. The first touch-up (within two months) is free; if you come within six months you pay 25% of the treatment price, and if you come within 18 months you pay 50% of the treatment price (provided they were applied at CHRIS).

- You are younger than 18 years old;
- You have diabetes;
- You are pregnant or breastfeeding;
- You have glaucoma;
- You are currently taking blood thinners;
- You use any of the following medications: cortisone, steroids, accutane, retin-A, renova;
- You have a skin condition such as: psoriasis, eczema, undiagnosed skin rash and blisters;
- You have a cold sore;
- You have high blood pressure or a heart condition;
- You have a blood disorder, such as haemophilia;
- You have severe acne on or around the area to be treated;
- You are currently undergoing chemotherapy (wait at least 6 months after the treatment);
- You have an eye disease.
Choosing a PMU expert
We understand that choosing PMU is not a decision you make lightly. After all, you're semi-permanently committed to your new eyebrows or eyeliner once you go for PMU. In our salon we often see customers who regret their PMU and ask us to correct it. This is often difficult. Unwanted PMU often has to be removed with a laser before new PMU can be applied. The choice for PMU is often made based on price, and that is a great shame. Cheap often turns out to be expensive here. To make sure you keep enjoying your PMU, we're happy to share a few tips with you:
- When choosing a PMU salon, check how long the artist has been in the profession, how often they take refresher training, what kind of equipment and techniques are used, and whether the space is clean and hygienic. These factors are important for high-quality, beautiful PMU.
- Don't go for the cheapest provider. Knowledge, experience and safe, approved products justify a higher price, and in the case of PMU this is truly necessary for the most beautiful result.
- Before the appointment, ask to see photos of the PMU artist's previous work. Every PMU artist has a different style. By viewing photos, you can check whether the artist's style matches the style you have in mind.
- Don't be afraid to travel further to the right PMU artist. The result of beautiful PMU is visible for years, so it may well be worth a longer car or train journey.
