Permanent make-up (PMU) removal
However happy you were with your permanent eyeliner, eyebrows or lip colour at first: over time you can grow tired of your permanent make-up. Or perhaps your permanent make-up wasn't applied neatly and that is why you want it gone. How does permanent make-up removal with a laser work?
When permanent make-up is applied, ink is placed just below the skin. Like a tattoo, permanent make-up can therefore stay in place indefinitely – although the effect will fade slightly over the years. Because the ink particles in permanent make-up are quite large, they cannot be broken down by the body. With a laser the ink particles are broken up, so that after a few weeks they are removed by the body on their own.
Which laser do we use?
For removing PMU we work with the highly advanced Nd:YAG laser. In a short space of time, this professional laser delivers short, high-energy pulses. The Nd:YAG laser ensures a safe treatment, quick recovery of the skin and the best result. A treatment with our laser causes no hair loss, leaves no scars and is safe, fast and effective.
How many treatments do I need?
Removing permanent make-up always requires several treatments. The number of treatments is difficult to estimate in advance; this depends on factors such as the type of PMU, the colour, the depth and the sensitivity of your skin. During the first appointment we try to estimate as accurately as possible how many laser treatments you need to make the permanent make-up disappear completely. There should always be (approximately) four weeks between treatments.
The colour is decisive
Dark permanent make-up (grey, black) is generally easier to remove with laser therapy than PMU with red or brown tones. Red permanent make-up pigments can even become somewhat darker after the treatment and stand out more. This darker result decreases after the next treatment.
Aftercare
Immediately after the laser treatment you can resume your daily activities. Do not exercise or visit the sauna for the first 24 hours, and don't shower too hot. Avoid the sun and tanning beds for four weeks. UV radiation can affect the results of PMU removal.
Choosing a PMU expert
We understand that choosing PMU is not a decision you make lightly. After all, you're semi-permanently committed to your new eyebrows or eyeliner once you go for PMU. In our salon we often see customers who regret their PMU and ask us to correct it. This is often difficult. Unwanted PMU often has to be removed with a laser before new PMU can be applied. The choice for PMU is often made based on price, and that is a great shame. Cheap often turns out to be expensive here. To make sure you keep enjoying your PMU, we're happy to share a few tips with you:
- When choosing a PMU salon, check how long the artist has been in the profession, how often they take refresher training, what kind of equipment and techniques are used, and whether the space is clean and hygienic. These factors are important for high-quality, beautiful PMU.
- Don't go for the cheapest provider. Knowledge, experience and safe, approved products justify a higher price, and in the case of PMU this is truly necessary for the most beautiful result.
- Before the appointment, ask to see photos of the PMU artist's previous work. Every PMU artist has a different style. By viewing photos, you can check whether the artist's style matches the style you have in mind.
- Don't be afraid to travel further to the right PMU artist. The result of beautiful PMU is visible for years, so it may well be worth a longer car or train journey.
