Removing age spots with coagulation
As the name suggests, age spots or seborrhoeic warts appear later in life. Over the years, you may develop small skin blemishes that we call age spots. Age spots or seborrhoeic warts can have different colours and shapes, from very superficial and light to thicker and darker. They are always benign, however thick and dark they may be. Of course, you may still be bothered by age spots. Coagulation therapy then offers a solution. This quick, low-threshold treatment for age spots removes the spots effectively and painlessly.
How coagulation therapy against age spots works
With coagulation therapy, we use a very fine needle to introduce heat into the skin. We heat the spots locally and very precisely. You barely feel this; you only feel pinpricks. The heat coagulates the proteins in the skin and scabs form on the areas of the age spots. These scabs fall off the skin after about a week on average. Beautiful new skin then forms underneath. Coagulation treatment of seborrhoeic warts is safe, quick and very effective.

After coagulation treatment, the spots that have been treated stay away. However, over the years you may still develop new age spots, especially if you are prone to them.
Before the coagulation
Before you undergo coagulation therapy against age spots, it is good to keep the following in mind.
- Do not wax the area to be treated in the week before the treatment.
- Do not undergo laser therapy or IPL in the week before the treatment.
- Do not undergo intensive treatments in the week before the treatment. Think of microdermabrasion, strong peels and microneedling.
Aftercare for coagulation therapy for age spots
Immediately after the treatment, the skin is warm and more sensitive than you are used to. This subsides within a day. Within a few days, scabs form in the treated area. Do not scratch the scabs and keep them dry. This helps the skin heal more beautifully and faster.
- Vermijd extreme warmte (sauna, heet douchen).
- Do not use a tanning bed and avoid the sun as much as possible. During the day, apply a sun product with at least SPF 30.
- Be moderate with alcohol consumption and smoking.
- Do not wear make-up until the scabs have fallen off the skin.
