Removing spider veins (spinnaevi or spider naevus) with coagulation
Spider veins are also known as spider naevus, naevus araneus and spinnaevi. They are all synonymous with an annoying skin blemish: a red vascular condition in the shape of a spider’s head and legs. Spider naevus can be removed with coagulation therapy.
Removing spider veins (spider naevus) with coagulation
Spinnaevi is a skin blemish that you can recognise by a central red spot (the ‘spider’s head’), surrounded by fine, radiating blood vessels (the ‘spider’s legs’). Typical of a spider vein is that the redness can be pressed away: when you press on the spot, the blood is pushed out of the vessels. When you release, the blood vessels fill up again.
Spider naevus is harmless and occurs mainly on the face. Did you know that spider veins can appear as early as childhood? They often disappear during puberty. Pregnant women also often experience spider naevus: 40% of pregnant women are affected by it. As with couperose, spider veins are caused by a local dilation of blood vessels. The cause is not clear.
With coagulation, at CHRIS we can act very effectively against spider veins. Coagulation therapy helps you get rid of spinnaevi quickly, effectively and painlessly .
How coagulation therapy works for spider naevus
With coagulation for spider veins, heat is introduced into the skin using a fine needle. For the spider’s legs we use an even finer needle than usual; these blood vessels are ultra-thin. The needle heats the blood vessels very locally, causing the proteins in the skin to coagulate. Afterwards, small scabs form on the site of the spider veins. These scabs fall off the skin after an average of seven days, after which smooth, new skin appears.
Results of coagulation for spider veins
After coagulation treatment, the spider veins that have been treated stay away. That said, there is a chance of new spider naevus if you are prone to them. Of course, you can then have these new spots treated again.
Before coagulation
Before you undergo coagulation therapy, it is wise to take the following into account.
- Do not wax the area to be treated in the week before the treatment.
- Do not undergo laser therapy or IPL in the week before the treatment.
- Do not undergo intensive treatments in the week before the treatment. Think of microdermabrasion, fruit acid peels and microneedling.
Aftercare for coagulation therapy for spider naevus
Immediately after the treatment, the skin is warm and sensitive. This soon subsides, often within a day. Within a few days, scabs form in the treated area. Do not scratch the scabs and keep them as dry as possible. This ensures a good and fast healing process.
- Avoid extreme heat (sauna, hot showers).
- Do not use a tanning bed and avoid the sun as much as possible. During the day, apply a sun product with at least SPF 30.
- Be moderate with alcohol and smoking.
- Do not wear make-up until the scabs have fallen off the skin.

Even more beautiful with ÜBER peels
We combine the Dermapen 4 as standard with an ÜBER Pro or MD peel, depending on your skin wish.
The ÜBER Pro is an advanced peel full of (fruit) acids, hyaluronic acid and peptides, which strongly intensifies the effect of microneedling on the upper skin layer. It thus delivers great results when it comes to, for example, hyperpigmentation, (fine) wrinkles, melasma and acne.
The ÜBER MD is a targeted, stronger peel with a TCA acid, which strongly intensifies the effect of microneedling down to the middle skin layer. It thus delivers great results when it comes to, for example, localised (acne) scars, deep wrinkles or pigment spots. Where the peel has been applied, the upper skin layer flakes off and new, smooth skin becomes visible.
