How many laser treatments are needed?

For a good result, 6 to 8 treatments are needed, spaced several weeks apart. Hair goes through a cycle and is not all in the same phase at the same time. Only during the growth phase can hair be permanently removed. The number of treatments required depends on the growth phase, the area to be treated and the hair and skin colour. Research has shown that 85% of people treated are permanently free of hair growth after an average of six to eight treatments.

Is laser hair removal permanent?

Yes, hair follicles that have been destroyed can no longer produce hair. On average you will see 70 to 90% hair reduction after six to eight treatments, spread over more than a year. More than this is not realistic. Beneath our skin lie thousands of hair follicles that are ‘dormant’ or produce only fine vellus hairs. Hormonal changes (pregnancy, menopause) or medication can wake these hairs up, causing hair to be produced again. For that reason, maintenance treatments are sometimes needed to keep the result.

Is a laser treatment safe?

When can I not be treated with laser (contra-indications)?
If in doubt, always consult a GP first. We cannot treat you if you have:

• Pregnancy and breastfeeding
• Epilepsy, pacemaker, diabetes (treated with insulin injections)
• Sun allergy and hypersensitivity to sunlight
• Malignant moles
• Fever or an infectious disease
• Use of medication that makes the skin light-sensitive, such as antibiotics
• Piercings, tattoos or an implant in the area to be treated

Does laser hair removal hurt?

The temperature the laser reaches is often experienced as pleasant. Hair removal with the Elits Epil808 Diode Laser is virtually painless, depending on the area to be treated and your pain threshold.

How old do you have to be for laser hair removal?

Laser hair removal is possible from the age of 16. Until your 18^th birthday, written consent is required from a parent or guardian. For adults, laser hair removal is possible at any age.

What is the difference between laser hair removal and IPL?

Although IPL seems cheaper, IPL does not guarantee a permanent result. The light from an IPL device does not penetrate to the deeper hair roots, so the hairs return over time. The hair roots are also only paralysed rather than destroyed. IPL emits a broader light that also affects the skin, which can lead to pigmentation or loss of pigment. IPL is strongly discouraged for dark skin types and on the face.

Why is there such a big price difference in laser hair removal?

How expensive a laser treatment is varies by salon or skin therapist. The rate a practitioner charges is usually linked to the purchase price of the laser device. What is the difference between bikini line small and large? 

With bikini line small we laser all visible hairs while you are wearing your underwear. With bikini line large, better known as a Brazilian, we laser the entire area, without underwear.

How much time is there between treatments?

The time between treatments is four to six weeks for the face and six to eight weeks for the body.

How long does a laser treatment take?

Depending on the area to be treated, the treatment varies from ten minutes (for example, when treating the upper lip) to an hour (when treating, for example, the back). Almost all body parts can be treated.

Is it possible to pay in instalments?
